Well, why do some songs start with "well" anyhow?

I think it's because "well" is a starting block, or a diving board, you spring onto that board and you're divin toward the water. and the introductory bounce is that "well".
well sometimes I will and then again sometimes I won't....
see what I mean?
One of the purest necessities for popular songs, no matter what flavor, is that "well"...It's like Rule number 7 or somethin'
